This year marks the 130th anniversary of launching urban transport in Bydgoszcz. The jubilee was celebrated on 2 June and the Organisers presented the essence of their work to the citizens in a spectacular way. One of the attractions was an exhibition of historical buses and tram rolling stock; afterwards, vehicles whose brands had become permanently identified with the history of public transport in Bydgoszcz, such as Jelcz, San, Autosan, Ikarus, Mercedes, Solaris, Volvo, or Solbus, paraded through the city.
This local feast in Bydgoszcz was complete with organisation of a subsequent meeting of the Traffic and Electronic Systems Committee of the Economic Chamber of Urban Transport in the Jubilarian city. The two–day session (6-7 June), whose keynote was ‘How to service passengers from suburban areas more effectively?’, gathered representatives of bus manufacturers, the public transport board, and manufacturers of passenger information systems. The next important event in the meeting agenda was the visit of Committee members to the head office of the company PIXEL.
The afternoon meeting began with an official welcome ceremony; after that, the guests were invited to take part in official signing of the agreement between representatives of PIXEL and MZK Oświęcim being part of the implementation of dynamic passenger information system including vehicle equipment. The host of the event also took care of the less official part of the agenda, e.g. by inviting the guests to join a darts competition and presenting a city bus on exhibition, furnished with comprehensive passenger information solutions. In order to visualise the process of device production, the conference attendees were walked through production halls of PIXEL and PIXMET. Approving reviews of the events that took place in the first week of June in Bydgoszcz confirm the statement that the heart of urban transport is beating in the Kuyavian and Pomeranian region.
